I've been known to do pretty much nothing but frog kicks in splits

That's cool it works for you, all that matters.
No "pun" intended, but you must be one of the "smarter" divers that have adopted the new technology. :D

Divers are allowed to wear a color other than black?

Not real divers, at least!!!

And, if the situation dictates that you MUST wear another color, only deep shades of blue are allowed - although you'll still be considered suspect.

In an effort to provide a thread where split fins can be bashed while still staying on-topic I have started this thread.

Good thread. I hope it stays in the spirit that you started, a lively and fun debate.

The USN and the USA and USMC do use split fins. We sell several thousand pairs each year to the special ops community. It is not the only fin they use, but many do use the new technology. We are quite used to receiving orders for several hundred pairs at a time, all in XL, the size that fits over a combat boot. The brave men and women who defend us do not care about split or paddle, any brand names, etc. They just want the best and most efficient equipment. We are proud to be part of that. -----back to topic :)

Hey that's cool! You do realize you just dropped a bomb on the "men in black" crowd :D
Now the split fin fans can say the USN/USMC is using them, we're done for :)

Split fins and paddle fins come with different amounts of flexibility. My Mares Raptors are pretty stiff. I am not a split fin proponent; I just know that for my needs, they are faster and I suck up less air for hunting while on SCUBA. I have been using USD Rocket fins 30 years and Mares Plana Avanti 15 years. I have been using splits for less than 4 months. The only reason I bought new fins is because I needed a larger size for my thick soled booties I use for hiking down cliffs. I have no problem with my Rocket or Raptor fins in changing direction, starting from a dead stop, swimming against a current, or swimming on the surface. I only SCUBA dive in the Pacific Ocean. I swim in a pool regularly 1.5-2 miles a few times a week. I want to get the new White Apollo's with spring straps, but they are expensive.

What does a 1 legged diver use for fins?? Welll!! I use Apollo Bio fin Pro. I am an amputee with a Knee and hip replacement, and dive with split or reg paddle. Split fin is alot easier on my knee, so its my preferred fin. I use a small flutter kick and it seems to propell me through the water effeciently. The debate on split fins is hilarious to read with the so called experts bashing them. I have watched a lot of documentry and diving related films and low and behold, what are some of the experts using for fins, yes the lowly splits!! I think buy a fin tha suits your style of finning or learn how to use them is the answer. I know this debate will never end and this is just my input! Thanks!
