Tobin, "realdiver" is only filling Scuba cylinders for personal use. Running the compressor in the 2000-4400 psi range is not relevant as to wear on the machinery so long as it is rated for HP continuous service and in good condition. However, if he gets a good deal on storage cylinders and has plenty of room, and doesn't mind hydro testing a bunch of low pressure bottles now and then, I suppose a staggered, "pyramid" setup might be an option.

I agree, Duty cycle plays a part, and the individual should be so lucky as to dive enough to wear out any of his equipment.

OTOH, 2400 psi bank bottles are usually a lot easier and cheaper to acquire than 4500's

Less energy will be consumed with a "pryamid" vs all 4500's

I am also looking at picking up some cylinders. As the OP asked "WHERE" to buy them, and I suspect the industry gas suppliers are the source, my question is the proper etiquette for asking them. Do you just call around and see who has some cylinders for sale? I guess the 440's are pretty standard, but what are the other options?

I'm learning quite a bit today about my new endeavor, and I'm listening very closely to all advice. I'll have some prices on various psi cylinders on Monday.

You guys are great!

Thanks!

Jim....thanks for the good cylinder web site leads. Did you purchase anything from airpower? If so, are the refurbs steel or aluminum? The other sites state to call them for prices.

To everyone else, I'm still listening to the great advice! Looks like there are some very knowledgeable guys here.

Thanks!

The 3600 and 4500 Cylinders were used, but were refurbished (sand blasted, repainted, new valves ,and new hydro). I o2 cleaned all of the cylinders, both new and used.
All of my storage cylinders are steel.
I was not able to purchase from airpower, because they were out of refurbished cylinders when I was looking.

Hi Real diver,
I bought my Bauer Capitano, 14 low pressure bottles, and 4 high pressure bottles, all from Steve at Airpower. He doesn't always keep the 4500's in stock, but he usually has the low pressure ones. I got the low pressure ones from he for next to nothing because they were out of hydro. I loaded all 14 in the back of my 3/4 ton Dodge and drove right over to the hydro shop. He did them for $25 a piece for me. I supplied him with two cga540 valves and presto, I had two 02 cylinders, which my gas company will fill. I might have a couple of low pressure cylinders left over if you need them. Shoot me a pm if you are interested. I cb through my system also.

I guess I should tell you all a little bit about Filter Techs. First off, we are a Lawrence Factor dealer. Plain and simple, our site offers their filter products at discount prices. It is set up with tier pricing 1-4, 5-9 and 10+. The beauty is that any combination of filters can be used to achieve another price level. We also offer chemicals, towers, filtration systems and air testing at discounted prices. These items are not on the site though. Check us out. ;)

I have a good lead on some LP O2 tanks. Where is a good place with good prices to buy new or refurbished CGA 540 O2 valves, with or without the handwheel?

Thanks!
