How much are LP85 cylinders new? Seems like they'd be $600-650 alone.

nope ... i got a pair of Worthingtons, Dive Rite manifold, and no-name bands (i.e. the whole thing) for $600 including shipping

this was ... let's see ... in 2006

I guess the question then is, do those prices still stand today? I've heard steel prices have really gone up quite recently.

Assuming new manifold + bands are ~$200, and maybe ~$50 shipping for the whole thing, is it fair to say you should be able to find new LP85s for $175 each? If this is for real and not some hard-to-find clearance price, I'd really like to know where! Thanks.

after a quick search, it looks like Worthington LP85's are going for about $260 each so you may be on to something

(they were just shy of $200 when i bought mine)

throw in a Sea Elite 300 bar manifold ($190) and SeaLutions bands ($70) and you are talking around $780 without shipping

The price is great but one of the questions I would want to know are what are the buoyancy characteristics and other physical characteristics. IIRC some of the steel 80s are lead bricks. No way would I want to double them up and dive even with my thickest undies and dry suit. Also the OP does not say whether these are LP or HP either

Believe me, it was tempting, but I wouldn't want a close friend to have regrets about it later.

Yes but that's when you buy him a 6-pack and dinner to make up for it. :D

Correct.

Good point. Doubtful you'd be able to find something new for $175. But we're talking used. Think new tanks run around $300 each for Faber LP85's.

It is not worth a friendship.

Since I don't know either of you, I will buy them at that price and avoid any conflicts between the two of you. Yes, I'm a giver.

They are LP 80s with -6 pounds (each) at 500PSI. I'm not too worried about that.

As far as the price, I ended up doing $350 cash, and since he's an instructor and I'm a DM, I offered to work a few pool/ocean sessions for free. No more cash out of each other's pockets, he gets help, and since I really enjoy working with classes, it works out well for both of us.

New, the gear was probably about $800-850, and it's all in great shape. I think this amount was pretty fair.
