Suunto SK7 - Remove from console?

Just got an SK7, and it comes in one of those segmented console mounts. I'd like to take it out to place into one of Tobin's wrist mounts. What's the best way to do this? DSS' directions say to be careful not to separate the rotating bezel from the friction ring, but near as I can tell the mount locks in place between these two parts.

Ideally I'd like to avoid having to cut through the console segment.

Use hot water from the sink, as hot as you can stand, then just peel it off with a little brute force. I have done two this way.

Going to a wrist mount compass definitely improved my navigation

That was actually my thread as well. I have the compass now but the assembly looks a bit more complex than first-imagined. Namely, there is an additional black plastic subframe visible at the bottom, that seems to encircle the friction ring and lock the compass into the console mount.

I'm going to try the hot-water approach but wanted to see if anyone has dealt with removing the compass/friction ring from the subframe.

as I recall, I was just able to pry the wrist mount off of my compass, the black plastic is supposed to stay on the compass. I remember thinking the destructions left a bit to the imagination....

I couldn't pry mine out of the original factory wrist boot, so I gently cut it out. Did the same for my buddy's compass. I was never going to use the original boot again. I opted for destroying the boot so as not to damage the compass. I used a razor knife and very slowly cut away the rubber. I actually carved a V took a little off the right side and then took another slanted cut off the left and repeated until the center section was thin and then made the center cut.

I did the hot-water trick and it worked like a charm. The black "subframe" which is NOT the friction ring came off the bottom along with the boot; the compass, rotating bezel, and friction ring all came out the top.

I found the trick was to use REALLY hot water - about 80% from my hot water heater, diluted with 20% cold water from the tap. I used my kitchen dishwashing gloves to protect my wimpy hands from the heat.

It took a few tries, but by working all around the edge, I was able to pry out the compass. Getting it into the DSS wrist-mount was trivial after that.

Now I can't wait to try it out in the water!
