V-Weight installation?

I'm looking at this product..

11 lbs (5 kg) V-Weight, cast lead | Extreme Exposure

I have a Halcyon SS BP and a #40 Eclipse single tank wing...the STA is the weighted kind.

Would this V-weight be installed in place of the weight already there?

The v-weight is intended for doubles not single-tank rigs.

I have no idea of what your talking about. IME the V weight is supposed to sit between a dbls set up behind the wing and plate against the tank

V weights are intended to be used with doubles, not singles. A V weight mounts on the tank band bolts and sits in the "V" formed by the two tanks. The "stack order" would be tanks, V weight, wing, plate.

My preference with doubles is to lay soft weight pouches on the wing below the upper band bolt, and the lower band bolt. The back plate kinda clamps them in place. Easier, cheaper, and more readily adjustable than a V weight. The wing prevents the weights from passing between the tanks, and the upper and lower band bolts keep them from falling out the top or bottom.

The stack order here is tanks, wing, soft weight pouches, plate.

Depending on the tanks used (7" , 7.25" or 8" dia) and the bend angle and center channel depth of the back plate used it's possible to "jam in" 4~8 lb of soft weight pouches between the plate and the wing.

I realize its intended to be used on a doubles setup, but would it work on a singles setup? Has anyone tried this?

The answer to your question is no, it will not work. You might be able to bolt it up (11 in on center) but it will be larger than the channel in your BP and would probably be very uncomfortable. You can, however, get a channel weight (aka p-weight) that is designed to fit into the channel of the BP and performs the same function when using a single tank configuration.

Designed to accomplish the the same thing as a V-weight, but for a single tank rig.

Most are 6 lbs of lead. Some are heavier, or you can pour your own to your own specs.

A weighted STA accomplishes the same thing in that it puts the weight basically flat against your back, and if you use it in conjunction with a heavy plate - either Tobin's, which has variable 'weight plates' that bolt to it, or FredT's which is essentially a fixed 12 lb SS plate, the two items together should meet most needs you might have for ballast. If they don't, you can still add a P-weight if you need one.
