My son needs some dental work done. He is 26 and has no dental insurance. He needs a root canal and a crown. The cost in the U.S. would be about $1400 for this procedure. He is thinking that if he could get this done in Coz for a much cheaper price that he could almost pay for the trip plus the dental work for what it would cost in the US for this procedure. Can anyone help me with their Coz dental experiences? Costs? Dentists? Time involved for making of permanent crown? Thanks much

My dentist here in Cozumel is Dra. Alejandra Novoa Carus and she's great! She' speaks excellent English, has a very nice, clean office and is very gentle! I've never had to have any major dental work done, but my significant other has and her prices are reasonable and fair.

I can't confirm pricing, but if memory serves me correctly, a friend of mine had a root canal and she charged him $300 - $400. I could be wrong, but that's what I seem to remember. I know that the pricing will also depend on how much she has to do. I would e-mail her to make an appointment and check pricing with her. You can write her in English :)

Her contact info is:
Coz phone: 987-869-8189
E-Mail: novoa_ale@hotmail.com

Address: Av. 30 (PJ Coldwell) #1320
Her office is in the l;ittle medical clinic in front of Conalep High School (collegio) on the second floor

Hope this helps and good luck!

I have also used Alejandra. She whitened my teeth and did an great job. She charged about $200. for the procedure. We talked about her fees and found that what she charged for fillings was much less than I would pay in the US with "great" dental coverage.

Have you had any major dental work done with her? If so how much were the costs? Thanks again!!

I broke a molar a couple of years ago, and she repaired it very well. It don't remember the cost, but I do remember it was about 1/4 of what it would have been at home, and was "all inclusive" of four visits.

I second the reports of her being very gentle, and her office is just like you'd expect at home in terms of cleanliness.

You can also try Dr Aurelio Arteta at arteta@doctor.com> Speaks fluent English, has a modern office and modern equipment. I have used him for about 6 years and my last work would have cost $8,400 in the states. He charged me $2,400.

He's only been practicing for five years Patricia, at least here anyway.

My preference is Alejandra for several reasons, although I know people that are happy with Aurelio as well.

Sorry Cristi then 5 years..I have been seeing him since he first opened over where the Placa office is now. He has been really great and has done work on me, my Daughter, 2 sons, and is nowing doing some discounted work on 2 little Mexican girls I am paying for.

In fact he did some emergency work on my daughter 2 years ago that would have cost a fortune stateside, and he did not even charge her...not even for xrays.

I've made dentists here in the States rich with my mouth. My last cavity a month ago cost me nearly $300 to fill. I think I'm going to look into booking a trip to Coz after reading this thread... maybe even move there!
