Got a flight on Singapore Air this weekend. Been awhile since I've flown with Singapore Air and I'm wondering how strict they are on regional flights with carryon and check in luggage. Will they slap me with an excess luggage bill if I'm 1kg over on my check in luggage (20kg allowance only) or if I'm bringing a big, heavy carry-on + another small camera bag?

you are talking about travelling Economy right?
never been charged for extra even my check-in baggage weighed more than 20KG. (never excess 30kg though...)
anyway, if you have Star Alliance Gold, you get extra 20KG allowance.
as for carry on, rather by size than weight.... and depends on how charming you are to SQ girls!??? at worst case you will be told to check in your big-heavy bag at the bording gate.

I fly with them a lot. If you are only 1-2 kg over I doubt they will hit you hard (especially if you join their frequent flyer program).

They have never asked me to weigh my carry on - which is a good thing as it usually has 10kg+ of dive gear stuffed inside.

Star Alliance Gold... hahaha... In my case, it's more like Star Alliance Coal... I think I still have a 20-40K NEGATIVE mileage balance in my United Mileage Plus program (don't ask :D...)

Anyways, thanks for the input folks. Can't wait til Sat.

have fun! according to the calendar of a dive center in Bali, 11, 12, 13/Oct should be mola2 weekend! they saw 4-5 mantas last weekend. so looks like they are back in position!?

Well you guys were right. The Singapore Air folks were laxed about luggage. I think we were about 5kg over on the total check-in allowance and they didn't bat an eye on my 15kg carry-on backpack with all my camera gear (helps that the 777's have such large overhead bins :D)... Ah those Bali spa treaments do wonders for sore shoulders ;)

Will post a quick trip report. Saw 1 baby mola mola. We never got out to Manta Point. Had a great time in Tulamben.

I was diving in Tulamben a couple of weeks ago on my way to Wakatobi.......saw Cuttlefish, Black tips, big Napolean Wrasses etc....Very good and under rated diving....last year saw a couple of the big Mola Mola's at about 120'....very cold!!!!

I also flew Singapore...I do not think they even checked the weight of my bags...Have a great trip.

Loved being back at Liberty wreck. I did my OW check out dive there about 10 yrs ago, so I can only now fully appreciate the beauty of that dive. Agree with Travelnsj, Tulamben area has something for everyone. Next time I want to check out some of the northern Bali sites some of the pro photogs are raving about.
