Whenever I prepare to go to a dive site I spend ages trawling web sites finding the information I want. What is your fave dive website that 'has it all'?!

:D

ScubaBoard!! :D :rofl3:

What category? On-line dive community? Dive charters? Dive sites? Dive gear? There isn't a single site that meets all of that, but I do have favorites in each category.

I would say 'Dive Sites' mainly, but would like to read other peoples experiences and tips on the site, and then get detail for dive planning (Its the detail bit that sends me all over the interweb!)

I understand what Divin' Hoosier was getting at, but SB works for me, right here.

I think you can get good travel destination advice, the best available, on this board.

Equipment and gear? Everybody's got an opinion, but at least here, no one is paying for people to say they like things.

Oh contrair...check out this idiot (it's actually a pretty entertaining thread

Agreed, and sure, there are a hundred of those posters in the last six months. I am talking about something more insidious than a spamming idjit.

There are "similar and major" SCUBA websites (message boards such as this) out there that are absolutely beholden to their advertisers. There is even one that claims to be non-commercial and unbiassed by money. 99.9% of the readers don't know the truth. Their claims are pure bull.

But yes, the cute little amatuer spammers and sock puppets are fun to spot.

Well, ScubaBoard is great to ask questions about places you've never been. But, for example, for my local diving, there are three or four websites that list shore diving sites, with maps, driving directions, sometimes photographs, and reviews. I use them a lot. Shorediving.com is another good resource, for the areas it covers. We also have a local dive club BB that's great for getting local information, and also networks a lot of divers.

When we've travelled, I've often Googled the places and found reviews of sites and dive operators scattered all over the web. They've been useful for making informed decisions, and so far, we haven't had a bad experience.

Well, my website of course! www.shellicam.com

Now for dive sites local to an area you are going to travel, The web is great, but nothing beats calling the local shops. I just got back from Hawaii and called Jacks diving locker http://www.jacksdivinglocker.com/welcome.htm The staff was excited to tell me about all the local beach dives. They charter tons of boats, but the staff told me if I was on a budget, the beach diving is spectacular, and only 10 bucks a day with unlimited refills. I am not affiliated with them, I was just so impressed with the staff had to give them a plug. Call the LDS's and talk to them. Most are ready to help out, and you will usually be talking to somebody who dives the spots they recommend. just my.02
