Wondering what dive computers can tell you? Here is a hypothetical example of what they could show.

1. The computers of everyone on the dive will show the beginning of the dive, since they all descended together. This will be true even if the computers were not accurately set to the time of day, which is very often the case. From that point on, the computers can be synched by dive time, not clock time.
2. The computers will show when they reached the platform together.
3. The victim's computer will show when the victim descended to the bottom.
4. The victim's computer will show how long she was active on the bottom.
5. The instructor and DM computers will show how much longer they stayed at the platform before initiating a search.
6. The instructor and DM computers will show how long they searched.
7. By synching dive times, they can show if the victim was still active while they were searching.

Here's what I would like to know because it's not specified

Who exactly lost the computer?
It was reported that one of the dive professionals lost their computer; I don't know if this means the instructor or the DM.

It was the DM computer that went missing…. Missing is a better term.

She wasn’t the only young one in the group. Her buddy she was paired with was apparently a 12-year old boy (nearly 13 is what I’m told).
Having 1 child student in a group of 8 with only an instructor & DM is probably against agency standards. Having two is definitely against standards and is/was totally irresponsible and nuts!!!!

According to the news report today, the attorney for the family of the drowned girl received an email response from Danny Howard of the Kaufman County Sheriff's office on October 1 saying that he has "been in contact with the dive master and dive instructor, and no data is to be recovered."

Oh, so pretty much they lost her and didn't realize it until after the dive or they did know and just froze out of fear and either way weren't doing jack sh*t to try to find her?

And they closed the case (guessing they were hoping to quietly write it off as an accidental drowning) and then reopened it as a criminal investigation - which coincidentally shields KCSO from having to provide details to the family and public until they've all gotten their stories straight and had enough oops-I-dropped-my-computer-in-a-90'-lake accidents.

I miss anything?

Sounds pretty much correct from what I’ve heard from the family. The police department originally wanted the family to agree to an accidental drowning case, but they refused. It’s been shady since the beginning. The family has never wanted Dylan to become internet fodder (which is why it’s been quiet for a while), but they haven’t been getting anywhere, so they’re prepared to bring it to the public now. I’m a good friend of the family; I have been in contact with them since the day it happened. I have the family’s
permission to speak out now. She was their only child. She was homeschooled, like my kids, so her mother’s whole life purpose was Dylan. However you think the family is doing… it’s much worse.

Thank you for putting some context out there from the family's perspective. I cannot even begin to imagine...

Have y'all seen the interview with one of the recovery divers that aired yesterday? Heartbreaking. I think it solidifies a lot of what's been coming out this month.

Apologies for the instagram link, it is the only place I could find the posted interview. I'm local to the area and everything about this is just awful. I really hope the police department doesn't bury it :/

It's in the link cruiser posted above. Fox 4 is covering it so you can always check their site for updates.

Unfortunately, it appears that is exactly what the KCSO has been trying to do. if you haven't seen it already check out their first story with David Concannon laying out some of the struggles he and the family have faced getting answers.
