My friend, the OP message and the ensuing discussion is/because/due to/from/ US POLITICS. You can NOT escape it!! If it had nothing with the glorious US politics, we wouldn't have this conversation. In fact, we never did until the coming of Anti-Christ, I mean MAGA!!!
Would you be happy if you ordered something from XYZ company, saw the on-line bill for (say) $100 including shipping, and then you discover when the invoice goes to your credit card company that the bill was actually $120, because of unstated "handling charges." Would you just shrug it off as "I should have known?" Or, the delivery guys shows up at your door with your $100 item, and won't give it to you until you pay an additional $20 delivery fee?

Wouldn't you say, "Why did the seller not tell me about this?"

There may be some confusion here; many non-US folks in this thread clearly dislike the recent US tariffs and those who proposed them. Fair enough; many US folks agree. But the problem is apparently that any negative statement about how those tariffs are handled by shippers gets turned into a referendum on the poster, with the apparent assumption that the poster must think the tariffs (and those who back them) are a good idea. Not so. I can't speak for Scuba-74, the OP, but I strongly dislike the tariffs, the reasoning behind them, and those who proposed them. So please take your politics to the Pub. My point is only that ScubaGaskets has done a poor job of explaining the final, delivered cost of their products; this should be done prior to purchase, not after a non-refundable purchase. Being in Cyprus has nothing to do with lack of a rather basic selling principle.
Not sure where you got that from. We’re just saying it’s the buyer’s fault — same as it’d be mine if I bought from Deep6, then acted shocked that import duties exist. Anyone who’s ever seen an HS code knows it’s a bureaucratic nightmare, not a guessing game for the seller. Unless, of course, you think the solution is they just stop selling to the US? Brilliant idea — punish everyone because someone couldn’t Google ‘import fees.

Are you serious about asking this question? This is a VERY basic thing, I do a lot of buying from the US, Europe, and Asia, and the seller NEVER guesses or tells me what the tariffs in Libya will be, NEVER!! They tell me the cost of shipping if they are doing the shipping, and that's it. Tariffs, taxes, etc., are MY responsibility. I ordered small orders of $100 or less and orders of 10s of 10,000 of $$$, and it has always been like that. I don't even think about it, Libyan taxes or tariffs or any shiiit ones, it comes to Libya is my responsibility to figure out and deal with it. Same thing when I send things to Malta, Germany, Italy, US (I have done this many times too).

Why do you suppose SG put the information on his social media site, but not his website, where people actually spend money? If nothing else, it is a courtesy to your customers who are NOT from Libya and thus used to such nonsense.

Come on — import duties have been plastered across US media for ages. If a buyer has missed that, they’ve either been in a cave with no Wi-Fi or on a two-year vow of silence with a group of sadhus deep in the himalayas. No excuses

I guess you are unable/unwilling to grasp the point. I and probably most Americans are well aware of the stupid tariffs. Please just tell me the price of what I'm buying, that is all I ask. Not disclosing the true price is either bad sales practice or knowingly dishonest.

The MAGA people act as if the world owes them something; the world actually doesn't. Get over it, the problem is within. Look at the mirror every now and then.

Lol — oh bless, you want the true price upfront. Adorable. The rest of the world’s been dealing with import duties for decades — it’s not a scandal, it’s just how grown-up trade works. Retailers don’t list every tax from every customs office on Earth, mainly because they’re busy selling products, not reading your country’s paperwork.

Every retailer on Earth is hiding prices just to trick you — or, and hear me out, that’s just how international trade works outside of a US zip code.

I don't think this is a MAGA/GOP/Trump centric issue. I think this is the general disposition of across the broad landscape of the United States' population.

The MAGA people intensified it and were the catalyst for all the shiiit in American society that was hidden to float up to the surface.
