Hi,

Does anyone have previous experience with travel to Egypt with DPV? Specifically with Egypt Air?. I recently purchased the Seacraft GO and want to take it on my travel. The batteries are lithium 97Wh segments x6 and fall within the aviation guidelines for lithium batteries of under 100 Wh. The baggage restrictions on Egypt Air websight has one paragraph that concerns me slightly: ‘no personal mobility devices such as hover boards allowed, in checked or unchecked baggage’. Could a DPV be lumped in this category?

Someone from Germany had their taken off them when they flew into Marsa Alam about three weeks ago - it was held at the airport and given back to them when they flew out again.
I checked with the Station Manager at Marsa Alam, and they told me that they would NOT allow a DPV to pass, so even though that is illogical, it was predictable the German chap would have it confiscated! However, as already mentioned the Station Manager at Hurghada confirmed by email that they would permit a DPV. I obviously took a copy of the email with me just in case there was a problem but no-one challenged me. I've also requested the British Foreign Office to seek official written clarification from the Egyptian Embassy for the sake of all divers, but they've only had 6 months so far, so I mustn't rush them!!

I just got back from a liveaboard trip in Egypt and thought I’d share my experience traveling with a Sublue Mix Pro scooter.
I flew with a transfer in Cairo, and my final destination was Sharm El Sheikh. When exiting the airport in Sharm, there’s a security checkpoint you need to go through a scanner. I was stopped because of the scooter in my checked luggage.
They let me through in the end, but told me DPVs are not allowed in Sharm and that I wasn’t allowed to use it there.
That said… I used it without any issues on the liveaboard. The dive guides were aware of it and totally fine with it.
Overall, it felt a bit random and inconsistent — just something to be aware of if you’re planning to bring a scooter to Egypt.

Pretty much everything in Egypt is pretty random - you get used to that when you live there and learn how to use it to your advantage. My general understanding is that DPV's aren't allowed to be bought into the Sinai governate however DPV's that are already there can continue to be used.

As I posted in April 2025, the station manager at Hurghada had informed me by email that they would permit a DPV. He was true to his word as I had no problem whatsoever taking my Seacraft Go through the airport both ways!
However, perhaps I should have mentioned that there was one brand that is specifically excluded! It is: SUBLUE! I had never heard of this brand before and I don't know the reason why it isn't permitted, but that's the way it is.
