Weights of titanium first stages

Does the minor weight savings of a titanium 1st stage provide value to anyone? I don't see the appeal of saving a few ounces this way. Picking at compact 1st like a Mk11 seems a much better option.

There is some weight savings but really the corrosion factor is the bigger one.

Cost adds up too when titanium is $1000/stage more expensive than brass. But you can't take it with you, so whatever!

More fun to buy on the secondary market as the loss in initial value is huge.

Is this a big problem for lots of people with their chromed brass corroding away into lumps of metal? Are we not rinsing?

When on extended trips it is nice to not worry about rinsing or even if rinsed what it is being rinsed in.

I dive Sidemount with two stages (all Apex) and a Santi drysuit. If I were to dive wetsuit then 4 full tanks vs 4 tanks with 1000 lbs remaining then my trim would be difficult to hold. End up being valve heavy at the end of a dive. Reducing the first stage weight - with a wetsuit- might be helpful

I have bought many regs via fleabay, a few via SB. Only once I have returned a reg because the seller did not disclose the engraving on it (the reg was from a rental fleet). One other time a reg was in bit worse shape in the ambient chamber than expected. Though some loss of chrome it was fully serviceable and functional.

Like any used reg purchase, look for obvious signs of corrosion. Look at the yoke or DIN interface. Lots of wear means lots of use. Many of the plastic bits can be replaced on the AA second stage. The sharp piston replacement is a loss on the AA first stage.

I like titanium because it's:
1) Pretty
2) Corrosion free
3) Light
4) Has its own special place on the Periodic Table
5) Cool

I started out with watches where the light weight really does make a difference.
I know that a Titanium regulator is hard to justify for practical reasons. But I'm sure most of us possess one or more misguided preferences.
I have to admit I don't dive my Mk11T. I like the T part, just not ScubaPro first stages.
I take that back. I do like the Mk2. I'd like it more if it was made of Titanium.
