What happened to Cozumel?

We voiced our concern and cancelled the next day of diving. I was told they would not charge me for a late cancellation and then sent me 3 different invoices before seemingly getting it right.

Your "cancelled the next day of diving" but dived "the second day"? So you did 2 days of diving, 2-tank trips? So 2 days x 2-tank trips x 2 persons = 8 tanks used total?

$760 for 4 dives for 2 of us was wild to me!

$440 for the dives plus $88 total
For 4 tanks of nitrox, $100 for rental gear (I had my own computer/mask/regulator), $85 in tax and $48 to marine park fees. Does anyone know the actual marine park fee breakdown? $24 a person a day seems high?

I can't make sense of your math. Is that 4 dives per person so 8 total? 2 2-tank trips per person? Or is that 4 dives total, 2 per person. I can't tell if these are total prices or per person prices. It feels like it is alternating between totals and per person numbers.

2 days of 2 morning dives for 2 people. We cancelled the 3rd day. The numbers I posted was their breakdown. It was 8 tanks, sorry I was tired.

I didn't say that I witnessed hordes of dives damaging the reefs.

You're grossly exaggerating my words.

Your words: "You forgot about the damage done to the reefs by the onslaught of hoardes [sic] of divers on a daily basis who make contact with the reef, sometimes violently, kicking coral with their fins and breaking it off or grabbing onto it because they can't control their buoyancy or don't know how to properly handle a swift current." The only thing you didn't say was that you witnessed it.

The ambiguity, I believe, is what you mean by "4 dives". Are you counting trips on a boat or tanks in the water? $100 per diver per two tank outing is a little steep but not all that unusual, but $100 per tank is way out of line. Also, are you renting equipment?

I think that comparing 2000s to 2020s diving anywhere in the Caribbean will get a similar response. I dove Pennekamp in 1977 and refuse to return as I'm much happier with my memory of what it was as to today's reality. About the only place that I'd say has improved vis a vis 00s to today is the Great Lakes. Say what you will about the zebra mussels, but the lil'bastards really filter the water and allow for some viz.

The bigger issue was the boat not having a gas analyzer.

Maybe I missed it in your post, but did the dive op state that there would be an analyzer on board? I never assume there will be one.

Nitrox could never have less O2 than air, could it? I dive nitrox as if it were air and I don't dive deep enough any more that O2 even at 36% would be toxic. I used to analyze and tag nitrox tanks but I don't any more, and I often go out on a boat loaded with nitrox tanks where no one else is checking them, either.
