Isnt that way to heavy for carry on?
Most US airlines don’t have a weight limit for carry ons. The ones that do typically don’t check. I’m referring to US airlines that fly to the Caribbean. I have no idea about Hawaiian, and some of the other smaller airlines.

GTFOff deplane didn’t play well.

On my trip to Truk United decided I didn’t need my checked bag for the first 4 days.
Can’t prove it but suspect Micronesia on United via Guam is especially bad: older planes, short runways, few divert options, locals bringing lots of scarce items/food in checked luggage and not many flights per week means a lot of “weight balancing” with luggage pulled off.

Had scuba gear dumped twice by United in Guam.

Guam is where it happened, some others who were watching saw our bags removed and left on the runway, $2200 for airfare on that trip, not a fan of air travel and the industry surrounding it, yet sometimes it’s a necessary evil.

Balls.

I’m heading over there next week. Not looking forward to it at all now.

Well, we got here ok, and so did the bags, so that was a massive relief.

Fly business class.

Typically you get two free checked 65 pound bags. That helps reduce the need for a carry-on. The checked bags get priority handling and tracking. You're guaranteed that your checked bags will arrive at your destination with you. Push comes to shove, economy bags will get bumped instead of business class bags.

Business class seats have huge overhead bins. And they never check the size or weight of your carry-on bag when you board through the first/business class line. 😎

Lots of other perks of business class, like sleeping on a flat bed, using the first class lounge on layovers (free food, free alcohol, free showers, etc.), and automatic personalized re-booking if there are flight delays.

Why do people put their reg in their carry-on? it is heavy, nearly indestructible, and easily rentable.
I understand mask (it has to fit), computer (somewhat delicate and you have to know how to use it, so don't want to rent some other brand), selected camera gear (some of it is delicate).
If you are staying at a resort, many (most?) have a policy of free rentals until your gear-bag arrives.
If "it has to fit" is important, then I'd think you'd want your wetsuit in the carry-on too.

Expensive to replace if lost and insurance won’t cover it. And the ick factor of breathing a rental. Granted, a rental wetsuit is icky, too, but it’s easier to not think about.
