The euro/dollar is racing back towards parity. Might be an advantage again soon.

I buy 100% of the gear from the EU even when the currency isnt that strong

2-3 years ago I bought two wetsuits (from EU) for the price of one (had I purchased it locally)

the only use of local dive shops is to try things on first

Have any US purchasers here had to pay customs duties on imported dive gear?

Yes, occasionally you'll get an invoice from the shipper that has to be paid before delivery. Super simple, though most of the time it sneaks through without duty.

Of the up-teen times that I have purchased from overseas, I have never paid any import duties or fees. It may also help that I maintain a European shipping / re-shipping address, that, in turn, ships everything to the States . . .

I believe myus.com offers both US and UK transshipment addresses.

US address has occasionally been useful for me.

But I think you end up paying UK VAT if you buy in UK, ship to a UK address, then tranship. So a tradeoff between shipping costs and taxes.

The US address, you don’t pay US sales tax, even in Florida where they are based.

I try to keep it under $800 so it is duty free. I have also ordered and picked up in Germany then filed for VAT refund on way out, didn’t get hit with any duty when flying home.

You mean a VAT refund.
