First of all, I’m located in the US (Houston) and currently in the market to upgrade my TG6 camera to an OM1.

When looking at housing options, I’ve been considering AOI, but I’ve noticed that prices in the US have skyrocketed recently.

For example, the same model listed for $2,249 on Backscatter is available for $1,015 on www.mikesdivecameras.com, which—based on my research—is a very reliable store in the UK that ships to the US. I understand I’d need to pay shipping and tariff taxes on top of that, but I’d still be able to save a decent amount.

My question is: Has anyone here purchased from www.mikesdivecameras.com and had it shipped to the US? What was your experience like?

Thank you so much!

Mikes are a good store both Dive and Camera shop (2 different shops in the same building. send them a message they will be super helpful, if you send by UPS, Fed Ex, DHL etc provided they have the correct paperwork it should be a doddle.

However be careful as the cases will probably be made in China and despite the case being sold via the UK, Mikes should be declaring them as having Chinese Origin on the customs paperwork, so you could be stung for whatever the Chinese import tariff at the date of arrival in the US.

I have nothing but a terrible experience with Mikes. I would not even step my toe in their store again.

If you have to pay a 145% tariff on $1015 how do you figure you would be saving any money?
What do you think, @Marie13 ?

What I’ve researched so far (which could be completely wrong) is that the 125% tariff does not apply in this case.

Photographic equipment parts, such as camera housings, seem to fall under Section 301 Tariffs on Chinese goods, which may apply an additional 25% tariff on this category.
Here’s the breakdown applying a 25% tariff:

ItemPay
Base Price$1,015
Section 301 Tariff (25%)$253.75
MPF (Min)$31.67
Estimated Landed Cost~$1,300 (plus shipping)

So I would be able to save a lot of money to buy lenses and ports. :)

I am NOT a tariff expert, but I believe the 25% you quote is now 125%.
You are playing with fire....a game with no rules, that can change overnight. Good luck.
