I've sometimes wondered how non-English speakers pronounce the names of the various three-letter agencies. It would make sense to me that they pronounce the letters as they would in their own language. Similarly, should I pronounce "CMAS" as a Frenchman would? I'm not sure there's any alternative.
I'm not going to claim it's correct, but here's how I pronounce the agencies I'm aware of using common words (or names) instead of phonetic symbols.

CMAS see-mass
BSAC BEE-sack
PADI paddy
NAUI now-wee
RAID raid
ANDI Andy
PDIC pee-Dick
IFDI if-Dee

For the following, I just say the letters
SSI
SDI
TDI
GUE
ISE
NASDS
YMCA
UTD
IANTD

I was recently explaining my gas switch procedure to a very old-school instructor. He said, "You most have some gooey in you."

He didn't like my procedure (or GUE, methinks) , but I found his comment funny, and I think, having seen the difference between his standards and mine, having a little gooey in your training is a good thing.

I was on a LOB with a bunch of people from Spain a few weeks ago and they pronounced it "Goo". *shrug*

A simple question, but a question none the less. Moving from SSI to GUE, and I'd like to get the conversation off to a good, intelligent start:

Is it G-U-E, "Goo", or "Goo-ey"

TIA!
Why not ask on the DIR-GUE forum?

So if a large bivalve is doing it right, is it a GUEduck?
They should make it their mascot.
