I've only been diving for about 2 years and I've never used anything but the backplate & wing. I found the jacket type bc's very uncomfortable for me. (used one when getting certified). Because I'm pretty short-waisted, I had a lot of trouble finding one that would fit. If it fit through the bust, the shoulders would float up almost above my head. To fit through the shoulders....well, you get the picture....My husband had a ss backplate made that is in proportion to my shortness. I love it. Have no complaints with the way it fits above or under water. But since I still consider myself a "newbie", it's just my $.02. :54:
