Hi there,
So I'm new to diving and currently finishing up my PADI cert. I've compiled a list of gear I'd like to acquire including the Zeagle Ranger BCD. According to the sizing chart, I don't seem to fit any of its configurations. My measurements are height 6'4", weight 175, waist 32", and 39" chest. What size should I get?

Are you planning on doubles? The Ranger is a pretty beefy BCD - think the lift is 44 lbs. You might want to try out the Stilletto (35 lbs) or *gasp* a BPW. I dive a Stilletto which I really like (my OW instructor dove a Ranger) and I don't regret getting it but if I had to do it again....... I'd probably be in an Express Tech or some other BPW.

As an aside, no need to rush into buying gear. Try a few different things and see what you prefer. Ebay has been my go to and you can find really nice stuff at ~50% off from people who rushed and bought all their gear then decided scuba wasn't for them. Rule #1 though is get a mask that fits!! It could be a $10 or $100 but fit is everything.

I'm 6'2" 210 and have an issued 911, which is more bulky than the Ranger but I think has pretty much the same harness with the exception of two waist straps instead of one. It's a large and most of my straps are cinched up at least half way, so you might need a medium.

The Ranger is a modular BC, the shoulder section and the waist section can be ordered in separate sizes to fit different body types. You may need to order a BC with a Large shoulder section and a Medium waist panel, that is one of Zeagles claim to fame is the Personalized Fit System.

I'm 5'10" 240lb and I got an XL Ranger LTD. We got a L sized Ranger LTD for my 13yo daughter, who's tall for her age. We can easily wear each others - they are very adjustable. I know you're dropping a lot of $$ so you want to be sure (and we did the same thing, agonizing over sizing) but don't sweat it too much. It'd be really hard to order something that wouldn't fit well by the time you got done with all the available adjustments on the Ranger.

Think about maybe carrying a pony down the road and consider the LTD. If you take care of it, a Ranger LTD could be the last BCD you ever purchase. Plus, as "beefy" as some consider it, we're both well under 50lb when traveling, closer to 40lb actually, and we weren't especially careful with weight when buying gear. Not an issue.

What made you decide on a Zeagle BCD?.....................that's what I thought................there are other, less convoluted, more streamlined options better suited to your body type.

Haha thanks guys. Just running a single tank. So I take it I should run the medium waist straps and the large shoulder straps?
Wheeledgoat, I don't think I'll ever use a pony setup, is there any reason to get the ITS other than that?

Divad, I like that it's US produced, compact, all black, and extremely durable. I don't intend on buying a BCD again so I want to make sure it gets done right the first time. If you have a better suggestion I'd appreciate it (:

i'm all about "cry once" - and you just never know what the future holds. if you would have asked me about carrying a pony a year ago, I would have said no too... but now, i'm kinda thinking about it. But a pony is only one specific example. The instructor that I got my AOW cert with explained to me that the LTD is a very well rounded BCD, with the D rings and configuration to handle all sorts of things you may decide to get yourself into down the road, that you're not even considering right now.

But let me backpedal a little bit - just cause it works for me doesn't make it right for you. Just sharing my experiences, that's all. There's all kinds of options out there... I wish you luck in deciding!! :)

edit: actually, coincidentally, just tonight I came up with a neat solution to carry my reel & sausage using the wing zipper attachment system, which I believe is exclusive to the LTD (or maybe not, I don't really know). so many friggin options with this thing, I absolutely love it.

You are a few pounds heavier and a few inches taller than me. I wore a medium Ranger and still had lots of room. My wife used a small Concept and I could use that for warm water diving. My suggestion is try a medium and see how it fits initially with a couple of sweat shirts on (i.e. some like a 3-4 mm suit). If ya got room you are probably good even if you went to a thicker suit.

Many people replying like backplates and wings. Note Zeagle also makes that combination. I dove a Zeagle Ranger before switching over to a Zeagle Backplate and wing. There are other US based companies like DeepSeaSupply. All certainly worth looking at.

You're describing a black BP and Wing, which will still fit you perfectly if you lose or gain weight, grow taller or shrink, has no spindly straps or cheap plastic buckles, has user replaceable straps that may never wear out (even after you are dead), and will fit your body much better than a Zeagle. My first BCD was a zeagle scout which I used for less than a year and eventually just gave away because I didn't thing it was worth anything.
