I’m still waiting for the answer to Uncle Pugs question of why you need to dive with the doubles .

EZ-

You' ve made it sound as though it is difficult to use the tech wing with the zeagle backplate. Removing the wing from the tech bc and putting it on the zeagle bp would take about 5-10 minutes tops. Why spend more when you can get the same result for less?

I am interested in configuring my BC to mount doubles for some future wreck & deep diving... I've used a Zeagle Ranger with a single tank for about four years now and am quite comfortable & happy with it. Does anybody have any experience diving twin cylinders with a Zeagle Ranger using the available twin cyclinder mounting plates or an actual BP attached to the BC? I figure that the advantage of going with a BP attached to the BC is that I could always just buy a harness & wings later to make a completely seperate set-up... Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

doubles cost a lot of money...

the upgrades for your ranger would cost a lot..

is a real backplate and a wing really that much when you think about it?

Not that I've ever been in doubles, but... ;)

I'm speaking as one who has tried what you are proposing with a ScubaPro X-Tek (the old TransPac I): It can be done but is far less than optimal. The mass and distribution of a set of doubles is so much greater than a single tank that you really want the stability of a backplate. Aside from that, the wing on the Ranger is not as wide as you would probably like and may not provide sufficient lift.

Diving with doubles takes you outside the recreational diving envelope and into areas that are a lot less forgiving of mistakes. Especially initially, when everything will be confusing, I'd recommend making a major effort to do it properly or not at all.

DiverJP, welcome to the file.

Please don't take this as a slam, but by using the search function (top of this page), choosing "Zeagle Ranger" as the keyword string (no quotes), limiting the search to the BC forum and searching only on titles you'll find that your question has been answerd about a dozen times already in the past.

The beauty of "search" is that in many cases you can get IMMEDIATE inswers to your questions, since you'll find where they've been asked and answered before, rather than having to ask the questions and wait for answers.

Short answer: Every cent you spend on a Zeagle to make it work with doubles will be ultimately wasted. eBay the Zeagle, buy a backplate.

You could consider buying a Zeagle Backplate with the holes already drilled for the Ranger wing, or buy other backplate (FredT, or ?) and have the holes drilled. Later if you do not like the Ranger wing with the backplates, get a wing then to fit (OMS, Halcyon, or Oxycheq).

I have a backplate made from a ironsmith here in Malaysia. I tried it out with my Ranger wing in a pool, and it seems ok. Can't say how it will perform in the sea though.

Thanks for the suggestions... I did a search and it seems like there are all of two people on the board who actually like using the ranger w/ doubles... Since I want to satisfy my own curiosity, I think I will probably purchase a Zeagle SS backplate to try out with my BC, & then if I don't like it, there's really nothing lost as I'll need the backplate anyway...

If anyone is using or has used a Zeagle BC for doubles please let me know how it worked out. I'm not a technical diver but would like to increase my bottom time as I like photography etc. . I'm thinking of two steel low pressure 80's. thanks, db

Well, it works... and thats about it.

You should use a backplate of some kind with it...

I will say that the best way to dive doubles is with a BP,H & W...
