If you dont mind could you send me a picture of your doubles with the hoses routed without the 5th port so I can get a better idea? Thank you.

FKD - Doubles Regulator Config

This isn't my pic, but this is exactly how I route mine. These regs are Apeks DS4 which are virtually identical to the Zeagle DSV. The Red and the Blue hoses are the ones that get "kinked" to about a 90 degree angle. I used Miflex braided hoses on those two on my rig, so they can handle the bend a bit easier. If you scroll down to the lower pics on that page, you'll see the routing with a 5th port option.

Zeagle works well for the type of diving I am doing now but they don’t seem to be very popular with other tech divers I have spoken to. QUOTE]

Must be the water.

I'm mulling over the same question; I have two Zeagle second stages and three Zeagle first stages. I've mocked up a set of doubles (bands-no-manifold-I'd-like-to-use-up-the-Nitrox-first) and have briefly fiddled with the hose routing using an Halcyon Evolve 40. So far, I like the routing of the "cross-over" hoses (for lack of a better description) behind the wing from the rear LP ports with everything else in front of the wing. I don't like the bends in those two hoses and am considering Myflex type hoses for the backup and inflator..........OR......... two HOG first stages to go with the two second stages I recently bought (with ten dollar rebuild kits). I'd also like to see pictures of doubles hose-routing with Zeagle regulators.

Apeks had also introduced the 5th port to its DST 1st stage last year.
It seems both Apeks and Hog have something in common.
Pity we cannot get Hog locally as Apeks has became extremely expensive.
If my memory is corrected, Apeks and Zeagle regs WERE very similar yrs ago.

failure points? Prrfft! belch!

I've owned a lot of regs, but the HOG D1 Cold Water reg is by far my favorite. The Zeagles are very high quality as well.

I have been using the swivel joint(top left) on the left post of my twin set for many yrs. Never been able to dismantle it so as to replace any o-ring etc. Any idea how to do it?
Much appreciated.

They still are very similar, except Zeagle improved the high pressure seat in Apeks design.

Other than the removable orifice, would you explain just what the improvement is.

Apeks uses (maybe they have updated recently, I'm not sure) a traditional "knife edge" style of hp seat, where as you have mentioned, the orifice is machined into the body of the first stage itself, and the "soft" portion of the seat is the moving part. Its not a bad design, as tons of other manufacturers use it too. Zeagle uses a replaceable "soft" seat that gets installed in the body, and the hard metal orifice is the moving part. Rather than close on a knife edge to seal, they engage as a male and female cone, that engage tighter the harder they are pushed together. It's in my opinion a more reliable design both because of the conical seat, and the fact that both sides of the sealing portion are replaceable.
