Sorry to see some of you think this poll is useless/poorly construted,or what ever.
It was most certainly not mend as a marketing survey.
But the only thing I wanted to see was,(after reading this thread)
http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/ba...-do-octos-have-problems-before-primaries.html

if it where true that most ,or at least a lot of, divers use crappy/ el cheapo backup regs.
As far as the poll goes and the reactions of divers who did not disagree with the poll setup.I think we can conclude that most(SB)divers don't use crappy stuff as backup.
Since I think SB is a cross section of all divers on the globe, the results sofar let me conclude we do think about what we use for backup and why it's there, and that we most likely maintain this as good as our primairy regs.

Witch brings up a new idea.:D
Something like how do you maintain your gear after the dive?

1 rince
2 dunk
3 let it swim over night(or at least for some time)
4 non of the above

Yep, you definitely need a course in Poll Construction 101.. :shakehead:

Aeris AT 400 Pro and an Aeris AT 400 Pro

To be clear, I was not really impugning the "quality" of the poll. (Hence the reason I had "poorly designed" in quotation marks.) My comment was aimed more at the problem of forming a conclusion that the poll was never designed to support or refute.

SB is most certainly NOT a cross section of all divers. The vast majority of divers do not even know it exists. Here on Maui, there's easily more than a couple hundred instructors (some not current but still certified divers). Less than 20 post on SB, maybe less than 10. Maui has thousands of certified divers, but maybe only another 20 SB members.

We are surrounded by good diving nearly year round, so our active divers is probably a little higher percentage-wise than the mainland USA. Let's say 2000 certified divers out of a population of 150,000 (minimum per previous thousands). 40 estimated maximum SB members (probably less). That's 2%.

I seriously over and under-ed those numbers to come up with 2%; I consider SB to be the interested in on-line forums 1% of certified divers. We are talking about some obsessed with diving divers, and there is no way you could say anything about worldwide certified divers even based on a really well set up SB poll.

My alternate retails for $130, before shipping (Leisure Pro). I bought 2 new Alpha 8's w/first stages from Divers Direct for $130 each, shipped all the way to Hawaii! Sure, that's retail vs sale price, but the Oceanic swivel octo is still hardly the same as my Delta 4 primary, but it's also not the cheapest thing I could find!

I have an Apex ATX 200 first and second stage, on a long hose. My backup is an Apex ATX 200 second stage on a bungeed necklace...so...the same!
