No worries, dawhale. It's good now that we understand each other. When the time comes, I'm probably going to need advice from you about diving from LA... :)

I understand where your coming from . My apologies as I read more into your statements then was stated. Dive safe. dawhale

Four_Engines, give me a heads up and I would be glad to dive with you. The best time to dive the Southern California coast in August-September-October. The water is warm and the vis is generally pretty good. My favorite dive boats are the Great Escape http://diveboat.com/great_escape_boat_layout.shtmland the Peace http://www.peaceboat.com/main1.htm.
I hunt lobsters in October-November-December. This fall I will be diving Indonesia. I will be in Singapore for two nights on the way home. I can not go home before I get my fill of Singaporean Chile & Black Pepper Crab at Long Beach Seafoods. dawhale

Sure! I may just take up your offer. Ditto, let me know when you're here. I travel quite a bit so I may or may not be around when you're muching on the Chilli Crabs. A side note, I love the Crispy Duck at Long Beach Seafood Restaurant (if you're talking about the one in East Coast Park). I believe it's one of their specialties.

My favourite dive destination? THE NEXT!

Sorry, I could not stand it. Actually, it comes from a story we use to tell between expatriates.
Do you know what are the 2 best postings for an expatriate?
Answer: the one where you were before, and the one you will go next.:D

So far...

1) Komodo/Rinca, Indonesia.
2) Layang Layang, Spratley Islands, or Manado/Lembeh, Indonesia.
3) Similan Islands/Richelieu Rock/Hin Muang/Hin Daeng, Thailand or Puerto Galera/Verde Island, the Philippines.
4) Around Sydney, Australia.
5) Maldives (disclaimer: I've only done a few dives around North and South Male atoll, so my Maldives experience is quite limited).

Honourable mention: Losin, Thailand.

My to date:

1> Tioman: Labas Rock, Soyah
2> Payar: Coral Garden, Lembu Rock
3> Bali: Menjangan Pos #2
4> Sipadan: Barracuda Point, South Point, Midreef
5> Tioman: Chebeh, Salang Wreck, Malang Rock

To do (before monsoon):
1> Redang
2> Perhentian

For the moment:
Sipadan
Brother, Dedalus,Elphingstone (Red sea)
Similan Island
