What's next, a regulator that breathes for you so you don't have to make the effort?
Looks lame

What we are failing to understand or appreciate is that these cloth sacks with a plastic bag inside them are pure profit. All of them are horribly over priced and all of them are heavily promoted. The fact is that you really don't need a BC at all for many types of commonly practiced diving. But, if the consumer knew this the dive buisness would loose their most profitable and marketed--uh---"device"---a stupid bag of air.

Otter:
I just read about the new BC with the i3 inflator.

A direct quote :"The innovative i3 allows divers to simply and intuitively control their ascent and descent by pulling a lever up and down to surface or dive deeper."

There's a difference between direction and depth.

Anybody can make a single lever that adds or releases air.

I'd be really impressed if it was like cruise control (set it for 95' and just hang there).

Has anybody seen the HUB^H^H^H i3 in person?

If they don't work, then maybe they will recall them like the Halcyon inflators...;)

I found out about these about a month or so back. I was tempted to order one just to see if it's as silly as it looks. Of course then I'd have to sell it to some hapless soul, & I just can't do that.

You guys are hilarious - I can't wait until one of you trys one and loves it... but won't admit it on this board.

What's so sacred about a BC with oral inflation?

These have a traditional corrugated hose with inflator. It's tucked in out of the way. That being said, I wouldn't buy one.

Nor would I recommend anyone to get it. I already have enough on my plate when I dive with people whose initial training wasn't done properly.

<end of dive>
me: <thumb up>
them: <ok>
me: <looks away for a second>
them: <HISSSSSSSSSSSS>
me: <!@&*^#!&*@^#!!!!!!> <reaches behind and grabs their ankle and deflates own bc completely just in time>

that was one scary night

"turn the handle up to go up" indeed <sigh>

SAFETY!!! What if a hose fails or you are out of air? You can always orally inflate. Infact, I have a friend who likes to never use the power inflator, choosing to always orally inflate, even underwater. And I watched as all three DM's on a cattle boat dive left their's unconnected enirely, the hose just dangledoff the reg. If they ever needed to add air, they just inflated orally. I would not dive with a BC that did not have a way to easily orally inflate in an emergency. Granted, other things are more dangerous to dive without, but I consider this a safety issue.

Plus I don't know how it works, but what if it breaks? :)

on the flip side, didn't some other BC have a push button system similar to this?

The dive industry is replete with stinkyosity from stem to stern.
