MikeFerrara:
I doubt that even many new divers would believe it.

i do hope so

Mike Veitch:
I love watching people in a head down position trying to get the air out of their BC with the hose! Always gives me a good chuckle, i then show them that air dump on the back right of their BC and its a revelation!!

So where is the air-dump located on this contraption? What if mr/mrs one dive a year is in a head-down position an pushes the lever to go down? Will it dump air "head down" or is that poor diver going to start freaking because thier "state of the art" BC only adds air and won't deflate?

one on the button, one on the right shoulder, one on the back right and maybe even one on the left shoulder too... (i didn't look that closely at the photo)

H2Andy:
when you hit the "up" button to go up, you are adding air to your bladder

i believe that is unsafe, or at the very least, not a good idea

it's even more hazardous when an unexperienced or out-of-practive diver does it. they probably will not be able to stop a runaway ascent if it starts.

those would be the exact people i woldn't want diving this thing (and they appear to be the target audience)

Well, there is a lever that adds air and lets out air. How is that different from a regular inflator? Inexperienced divers could do the same thing with the buttons on the inflator hose. The up and down wording is for controlling buoyancy at depth. As has been posted here the wording would be better to say Air In and Air Out.

So, I didn't read about 15 pages of this. But their online demo...when you stop adding air, the guy stops going up. But, when I dive and stop adding air, I sometimes keep ascending. This has made me realize how much I suck at diving, because this digital guy has perfect bouyancy and I don't so now I'm going to go end my life and kill myself by sucking my tank drya fter getting myself entanged in my shower curtain, since there is no point to living if a website can dive better than I can.

BAD IDEAS ? I think the lever controls an ejection seat and when you pull it you're in for a BLAST .................................................................................................

no worries Jah, you can be a fantastic web diver like so many here.. :D

MikeFerrara:
It's more than just poor wording. They even put animation on their web page to show you exactly what they intended to say. Are non-diving marketing people running everything at aqualung? It would seem so.

What does the animation show Mike? A diver in a good trim position. What happens when you use the lever? He goes up slightly and down slightly. Pretty easy to understand. How would you illustrate it better? Their point is to show how you can use the lever to adjust buoyancy at depth.

Why show anything at all? Certified divers should be able to figure it out, right?

yeah, i think the ad and the whole approach are emphasizing the wrong thing

one does not push a button that says "air in" to go up. that's just dangerous.

anyone who says to you "push a button and let air into yoru BC so you can start an ascent" doesn't know much about diving and, in fact, can get you killed (through a lung-expansion injury resulting from a runaway ascent)

this is rather serious

Better cut-away to your reserve after ejection and switch to your Fenzy BC. It was marketed as "The Diver's Parachute".
