Since our diving options are limited here in frosty Ohio a group of us are getting together at the Y this weekend to discuss/schedule a Rescue class. It looks like we'll have law enforcement, fire service, and maybe even our local diving surgeon in the group so it should be a good mix Anyone in the Wrecking Crew know if there are any major differences between Y - Padi - Naui - etc. Rescue courses? Thanks and hope to see everyone at the M&G in April!

I cant really speak for Naui or Padi, but I took the Y-SLAM in 2001 and out of all of the specialty courses that I took, it is by far the most useful course that I had taken. First aid and O2 admin is required to complete the course. Does your Y have a SCUBA program?

SCUBA Lifesaving and Accident Management (SLAM) is the premier SCUBA rescue course available.

Northen - Yes, our Y has a scuba program that I'm told goes way back. The instructor usually runs open water classes in the spring and fall. He will conduct AOW and other
courses when there is sufficient demand.
