This is very interesting. I assume that you have the Inon in sTTL mode (in which case it doesn't matter if the magnet is inserted or not) and that when you run the camera in manual flash mode at a reduced power setting, it fires the pre-flashes which are mimiced by the Inon. When the flash fires at reduced power the duration of the flash is adjusted to to the scene allowing the Inon to work in sTTL mode with a reduced power setting. I am going to try this on my next dive trip with my EPL2 and see what type of results I get. I thought I read somewhere that you must fire in forced flash mode to get sTTL to work but I cannot find the post and it may be different for the EPL2 and the xz-1.
