What's your take on x-ray damage to film? I use Sensia & Velvia, which are both pretty slow. Sometimes my film goes through several times, as I don't always use all of it on a trip. The last time I went somewhere, they insisted I put it through the x-ray. I think they were too lazy to look in each container. This time I left all if in in the origional boxes.

Hi, Pufferpunk!

I use those lead-lined bags to transport film in my CARRY-ON luggage. The X-Rays used on your carry-on are less potent than the ones now used on checked luggage. I have had both ISO 50 and ISO 100 go through those devices 4 times with no apparent harm.

Do not, I repeat, do not put your unexposed film in your check-in luggage!

You will know if your film has been zapped when it is developed! After having three rolls developed on St. Thomas and having the photo shop owner tell me that I was not exposing my film correctly, I finally figured out that I had been zapped. From then on the film went into the lead-lined bags for every trip. No problems since then.

Hope this helps,

Scorpionfish

Most scanners are passed as film safe so long as the film does not exceed 1600 ASA.

I took 7 rolls of unexposed film wth me to Mexico last month. All turned out just fine after shooting all 7 rolls.

Only damage was caused by me and some of the "out of focus" too close macros I took. :D
