I have both a 1 Gig 40x Sandisk Ultra and a older 1 Gig microdrive. The microdrive is real slow. When I got it 3 years ago, it was top of the line in terms of size vs. cost and in my old G1 its great. I haven't had a single problem with it and have 15,000+ photos on it.
When I bought my Canon Digital Rebel last month I got the Sandisk Ultra 40x. After reading some reviews on it I purchased it at JandR.com. It cost $189 with the rebate they had at the time. Compared to the microdrive its night and day. Its real fast and with already over 1000 photos on it I have yet to give me a single problem.
