I believe it was Rick Murchison from whom I first heard that decompression profiles were like measuring with a micrometer, marking with chalk, and cutting with an ax.

With as much we we really understand about deco theory, I believe that if we are 30 seconds off of our planned profile, we have as much of a chance of improving the profile as we do of making it worse.
