I just recieved my wp-dc40 housing yesterday. I was messing around with it and can't seem to remove the seal. I'm afraid of damaging it. What's the best way to remove the seal? The instruction manual shows a guy pushing the seal together from two sides to create a loop that you can then pull, but I can't push the seal together enough to get it to loop up. I'm afraid to use my fingernail to pry it out. How do you do this without damaging it?

Slide a thin piece of smooth plastic (like a thin credit card) between the groove & the o-ring, then gently pry out the seal. Once you can get your fingers on a part of the o-ring it should come out easily. Do not stretch it more than necessary.

I figured the only way to get it out was to pry it with something, but the manual has me afraid to even pull it gently for fear of a leak. I'll try the credit card method!

Give it a good squeeze. The few Canon housings I've used have been easy enough. I stuffed and O-ring with a credit card once and have been afraid of using one even since. Squeeze from both sides of one corner and you'll be able to pop it over the o-ring ridge - the rest is easy.

I had the same problem at first and now the o-ring is getting a bit easier to work with. I figured out a pretty easy way to remove it using a small zip-tie. Use the pointy end of the zip tie (tie wrap to some people) and slip it under the o-ring, sort of lenthwise, somewhere in the middle of one of the long sides. Then after you get under it, gently grasp the o-ring and remove it. I always keep a toothbrush handy and go over the entire groove and the other mating surface. A tiny amount of silicone grease to shine up the o-ring and then put it back in place. Watch the spot near the hinge where the short steel pin is, you need to work that in gently too. Close her up and then give a visual all the way around looking for any hairs, sand grains, etc. Oh yeah, I always push each button on the back before inserting the camera too, just to keep everything free and loosened up before going in the water. So far so good. I use the camera system almost everyday.

Good luck!

Great info! Thanks guys...
I like the toothbrush idea. I'm really nervous about using the setup for the first time so I'm trying to do as much research as possible before getting wet.
