Does this housing allow for operators to use manual mode and access advanced camera features underwater, or is it limited to only basic functions while below?

I don't know about the WP-DC20, but every other Canon housing I've seen (the A-series) makes a point of allowing all buttons and switches to be operated underwater -- including the "print" button on the Ax5 models. :-)

I myself have the Canon S1 with the WP-DC20 underwater housing. Every button and switch can indeed be operated, as with every canon housing. The WP-DC20 also allows the internal flash to pop up and there's plenty of room to fully zoom with the S1. I'ts very functional and has exquellent build quality.

Only "problem" i have with it is that it's pretty buoyant. If you let it go it shoots to the surface. That's better than sinking if you lose it, but i have it on a retractor, which works great, except for when i let it go, then it dangles upwards, often in front of my face or pushing against the regulator hose. Canon makes weigths than can be screwed under the housing, i'm going to give those a try.

To me the S1 with the WP-DC20 is the ultimate above and underwater combo camera, never go on a dive trip without it.

instead of Canon weights (which cost ~$40 for the set), talk to your local tire dealer about purchasing about 2oz of "soft weights" that they use for wheel balancing. You can then drill a hole through them and attach with a screw, or simply use two sided tape to attach them inside the housing.
