I finished my OW last week here in Texas and had the chance to go out with my friends this last weekend in SoCal. We did a couple of beach dives at Picnic Beach on Sunday and I had an absolute blast. However, climbing up to the street after the dives is an absolute whipping!! My legs were like noodles. I have a new respect for beach diving after doing that. I don't know why I didn't get into this sport sooner.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed your dive at Picnic Beach. Good thing you didn't dive 1000 Steps in So Laguna :D There's some really fun beach dives in Laguna ... steps go with the territory, though. On your next trip, you may want to consider taking the Catalina Express over to Avalon. There's a very nice UW park at Casino Point with lush kelp and abundant marine life. It has something to offer for all skill levels. Congrats on obtaining your OW ... you're life will never be the same again ;)

riguerin,

I'm going to Ginnie Springs, FL in Feb then back to Cal in March. We're going to rent a dive boat and do Catalina for the March trip. I'm already looking forward to it.

PS: I don't need a 1000 steps of any kind...LOL!!

1000 steps in So Laguna is brutal! Grew up suring San Clemente, and Laguna..... It was hard enough with a board...... can't imagine having all the scuba gear on. Way to go lugging that around! I agree with riguerin, Avalon is a great place. Planning a trip there to suprise my wife for our Honeymoon. We are both new to diving but love it! We've both been to Hawaii, and some local lakes so I'm looking forward to the kelp forests. I'd love a free tour guide if anyone is going to Avalon Feb 20th and 21st.

Picnic beach at least has that ramp. Gotta Love Catalina tho. $8.00 to haul your gear to the "park" and back, easy stairs... Or one of the boats from Long Beach. Only thing about beach dives is their cheap....

LOL. It’s is actually only around 200-300 steps, but it sure feels like 1000 ;)

You might want to consider posting on the So Cal Trips & Marketplace forum. There’s a pretty active and friendly dive community here … you’d very likely get some takers. Good luck.
