I dove into some ham, corn, biscuits and jell-o eggs does that count?

Did two dives in the St. Clair River out of Sarnia at the Blue Water Bridge on Easter. Water temp was a chilly 33 degrees on the Monarch, but vis was excellent - about 12-15' (turbidity = 0.9)!

My dive buddy wanted to go up the north shore of Lake Superior with his boat today, I had ice diving certifications so he took some twinkie instead of me! He put in at Silver Bay and broke ice all the way out.(less than one inch) When he found a spot that was ice free, it was so clear and calm you could see the knot on the anchor rope at 50ft. After a quick solo dive to 70ft, some rock climbers yelled down to tell him they saw him clearly for the whole dive. I on the other hand was NOT so lucky. We had less than 20ft vis in a churned up muddy bottomed, stump filled pothole.(it was hard to find good safe ice to dive under) Now I have my ice specialty, but I really wish I could have gone to Superior. Oh well, dive season is a commin!!! ;)

I got ice certified a couple years ago. I was again one of the two guys who signed up for our clubs ice dive that was canceled this winter. Although setting up is a pain, I still like to do it. Oh well. But today is the day. I'm going to fire up the boat and visit one of my local wrecks. I've been through it stem to stern and all I need now is fuel. Hot damn.

Hey Jim,
How was the dives? vis would have to be fair with no rain run off! I get my boat in a week or so, and have to beef up the dive platform and work on a ladder-then Im set! we will have to get out on a dive,
Till then dive safe!

We dove the Niagara. I had two other divers with me and thier gear. Got the old boat up to 22 mph. Not bad out of that 70 horse. The lake flattened out nicely mid day. I had gone out previously and thrown a marker on the wreck. We hooked it first try. Surface temperature was thirtynine and bottom temp was around thirtyfive. Vis was around forty feet, so not too bad. Got a thirty minute dive before my dive buddy gave me the I'm freezing sign. I dove "dry"(except for a leak around my crotch of course) so except for my hands I was just fine. I probably could have gone another fifteen minutes or so. We did the main wreck and the boilers. Not much in the way of fish life today. There were some huge lawyers on the wreck today though. I'll have to invite one home for dinner sometime. I understand they are quite good. A great day to be out on the lake as always.

Jim
