I ran into this web site the other day.
They have this Scuba Lottery thing going on. For $1 you enter into a drawing and then they pick a winner and send the piece of equipment out to the winner. They have had everything from simple diving tools to reg sets and BCs.
For the life of me I cant remeber the web site and dont remember what I searched under to find it. Anyways, if I run into it again I think im gonna do it. They had awesome odds. What do you think?

Its costs more than your $1 to participate. I'm confident they want your contact information. They want your Bio. They want your review of the gear, etc.etc.

I have enough Scuba gear. And besides, eBay asks for nothing and I get no SPAM! My privacy is worth more than $1 mystery gear.

My $1 <$.98>

If every one would send me a dollar I will pick a piece of my no longer used gear still in Great usable shape and conduct a raffle for it.

TADA now all I have to do is sit back and wait .......:D

Sounds illegal at best, and a total scam, at worst. How exactly do you pay that $1? Credit card?

A client of mine was a recent victim of a new-old type of internet fraud. He was looking for a hard-to-find coat to give his wife for Christmas and found it online through Google. He placed his order, was immediately informed that the coat was out of stock, then discovered that his cc# was used to rack up $4000 in fraudulent charges over the remainder of the day. Of course, he's not liable for the charges, but it's a pain having to switch credit card numbers when you use autopay, etc.

Moral of the story- a "secure" connection is not all that it implies. If the people on the other end are criminals, they know how to take your info and disappear.

MAN! I wish I could find that site again!
You all bring up good points... You pay your $1 by a Paypal verified seller. If you have used Ebay before then you know that Paypal is pretty good. The raffles I saw up there were for brand new equipment. I think there was a dive knife and a mask. They didnt ask for any information out of the ordinary... an email address to contact you if you are the winner and a physical address to send your item to if you win.

I will find it again. It was one fo those nights that I was on just doing a butt load of stuff and looked at everything and anything, so who knows when I ran into it.
