I would lend some of my extra gear, such as; fins, mask, light, knife, weight pouches (not the pouches loaded with pennies or 1 cent coins). I am hesitant to lend a regulator, computer, BCD, or exposure suit.

As long as they buy into the policy it comes back as you lent it or replaced with a new one. That seems to be the policy at my club in the UK.

I've lent out my semi-dry on a number of occasions once to get a student into the water as she did not fit any of the shop suites.....

Have also lent computes, regs, BC - if you've got it spare and it sorts someone out rather than having them left on the dock why not? They are usually very grateful and have always taken good care - even virtual strangers.

Should I ever need it hopefully someone will do the same for me.

Depends on how cute they are. Glad that was one of the options. :out:

To someone I don't know, doubtful, except defog, or an extra strap, or a weight or two. If I know where to find them to get my gear back, and know them well enough to trust them to have it there, I'd lend mask, snorkel fins etc.

I would lend my BCD and regulator/computer, but only to someone I dove with and knew took care of gear, and then only if didn't interfear with MY dive plans. I've been in situations where my gear was being serviced and I was glad I had friends with spares who trusted me enought to loan them to me.

I will let people I am with try my gear but If I didn't know them I wouldn't....unless I was looking to get rid of it and turn in a insurance cliam....just kidding.

I guess I'll change the answer I gave earlier. I just had a rental braught back totally trashed. A lawyer freind is working up a new rental agreement/release and nobody touches my stuff unless I have a credit card number or large cash deposit.

I just spent a lot of money on gear for 3 people. In that mix I built up a save-a-dive kit including a bunch of spare straps, clips, O-rings, hoses, guages, tools etc. I have read a lot on this board about being self-sufficient and I wouldn't consider going on a dive trip without my spares. I'm too new and too poor to have spares of the "big" items like regulator, BC, fins.

I would gladly give up spare parts to someone with broken equipment but I would probably not loan major pieces of gear to a stranger.

If I was in a situation where I needed a major piece of gear, I would expect to sit-out a dive until I could get somewhere to rent it. If someone offered (I would not ask) to lend me a piece of gear I would owe them a nice dinner at the least.

I just bought my own equipment and I am pretty darn anal about it. I especially would not lend anything out to anyone I dont know....ok, maybe some defog, but thats about it.

I have a friend who is pretty immature, like me, but when it comes to SCUBA diving he is very serious..just like me. You just can't play around and take chances.....loaning out your equipment especially regs, computers, etc is asking for trouble and theft. ;)
