First I wish I had gone to a back plate sooner, it's more comfortable and stays put.
But you might want to think about an AL plate, when I'm diving a 3 mil jumpsuit and a ST95 tank I only need 3 or 4 pounds of lead.

What all the questions boil down to is this: If you're diving in the ocean, no matter what the rig, will you be able to get to the surface in the event of a complete wing failure?

If you're wearing a 3mm suit, a steel bp, and a steel tank, the answer may be no. If you're diving an Al tank, it's less of an issue. The bottom line is to be sure that *when you're properly weighted*, you have at least a few pounds of ditchable weight. Worst case you're going to be swimming up negatively buoyant by the weight of air in your tank plus the buoyancy lost by suit squeeze.

Furner:
if you are talking about plates, I do not yet have one. If you are talking of tanks, AL.

Then you may be fine, if you are thinking of getting steel tanks, you may just sink with a 3mm.............swim Forest, swim!!!!!!!
