You can also get vertigo from having cold water in one ear and warm in the other. So a tight fitting hood which prevents water getting into one ear but letting cold water into the other will give you vertigo. This will continue till the cold water warms up to the temperature of the other ear. In fact, this is one test ENT specialists use when looking at ear problems (I know, I have had it).
