The advantage I see over the Belize blue hole is that this one is near shore and inside a protected bay.

The disadvantage is there's almost no diving in Chetumal (1 or 2 shops?) and it is far enough away from the diving mecca of Cancun-Tulum to prove problematic...
 
i was planning to pass through chetumal in a week-ish, if anyone knows more about dive opportunities would be interested

Since I retired four years ago, I have taken to reading a lot about the Maya. Probably have two dozen different books. Since this hole is a relatively new discovery, I'm curious if there will be any Mayan items found. Hoping they won't find our trash down there like they have at the Belize hole.
