Anyone here signed up for the Guinness Book of World Record attempt at Gilboa next July?

Here’s your chance! On July 17, 18, and 19, 2009 at the Midwest’s Premier dive site, Gilboa Quarry, just outside of Gilboa, Ohio, a huge weekend record-breaking event will be held. An attempt will be made to break the record of having the largest number of divers submerged in a quarry simultaneously.

Being a part of this record-breaking event is only the beginning; A whole range of other amenities will be on the table if you participate:

1. The first 100 to register will be in a special drawing for an UW scooter.
2. Gilboa Quarry will be giving 10 UW scooters away on prize day.
3. Dive gear from dry suits to computers, etc., etc., will be awarded on prize day. Mike is now contacting ALL manufacturers for equipment donations, and because of the publicity of this event, they will donate.
4. GET THIS—The dive club who registers the most club certified members who participate in the event will be treated to a dinner at the restaurant of their choice. (30+ members, 30+ dinners)
5. GET THIS AGAIN---The dive store owner who registers the most participants under its/his name will receive a free dive trip (location to
to be announced) or $1000.00 cash (all yet to be determined)
6. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??—All participants’ names will be inscribed by lazar, alphabetically by state and country, into a huge piece of stainless steel and displayed at Gilboa Quarry permanently.
7. Gets you a free dinner on event day compliments of Gilboa Quarry.
8. There could be more yet if Mike gets any other great ideas.

You have until Nov. 30, 2008 to register, or until the magic number is obtained. (known only to Mike) Once the number is made, registration will be closed, so don’t miss out.

$50.00 registration fee gets you your parking (Mike obtained more area around the quarry for parking, so no problem) gets you dinner on event day, gets you in the water to help break this record, gets you a Guinness T-shirt, gets you into the action on prize day, and gets your name on a permanent memorial if the record is broken, and you get to meet hundreds of fellow divers from all over USA & the world. This is gonna be great!

Other requirements: On event day (the 18th) you must show a log book or log sheet that shows that you have been diving in the last 60 days prior to the event.

Let’s make history!! Check out Gilboa Quarry Scuba Diving (Gilboa Quarry Scuba Diving) for info and updates.

OH man, that sounds awesome. I will have to find out when this dive trip I have planned is for next year.

Sounds like a fun weekend!

I was looking around the site, and couldn't find any information on it. Am I just blind or is it not posted yet?

I normally try to avoid quarries packed with divers not hunt them out!

You're not blind, they are working on updating the website. Hopefully the webmaster will be done soon ;)

It's going to be a HUGE event. Arrangements have been made to get additional land nearby for camping and shuttles will be used to get people and gear back and forth. More prizes are being added too :D This event is a huge undertaking and the logistics are mind boggling but they are doing everything they can to have a safe event and a fantastic time!

Those who keep saying they want to come out and dive the Great Lakes but haven't got around to it yet could use the event as a great kick-off for a wreck diving vacation.

The Florida group has "Invade the Keys" to meet their fellow Scubaboarders, we could have our own invasion and set a world record at the same time! This is probably one of the most cost effective scuba vacations you can take.

This bunny will be there and I'd LOVE to meet everyone, come out and join me!

I can't wait!!! already have a room booked, there will be quite a few of us from southern ontario, and i look forward to meeting other scubaboarders. see you there
