Well... anything is possible...
TRUE STORY
I work as a diver in the Baltimore Harbor... I probably do about 600 dives a summer there. The Harbor is filled with trash... so they have these "Trash" boats as we call them that motor around and scoop up trash.
One day I was working (and yes, I had a tender a dive float/flag etc...) and I heard a boat getting close. Of course the vis was only about 2 feet and I was fairly close to the surface... about 12 feet below the waterline. These trash boats come right into the Marina's and even into slips to pick up trash. I knew the boat was close but could neither see it or tell exactly what direction it was from me. I could'nt go deeper... (I was on the bottom at 12 feet,) So I headed up underneath one of the finger piers (which I knew because I found a piling to go up.) When I got to the surface the "Trash" boat was actually in the slip next to the one I was working in.
Why do I tell such a boring story? I guess to make the point that if I didn't have a tender and a diver down marker... the trash boat may well have come into the slip I was working in and picked me up... it's not that far of a stretch...
