I was told that the Diva QD is for warmer waters and the LX is for colder water by my LDS. That could account for the price difference.

Seaquest Diva LX, great fit, 'nough said. By the way what planet is drysuitdave living on? Not this one for sure!

wapyaly,
i was confused about drysuitdave, too, but he's refering to the signature in the box immediately above him. he pressed "reply" but the .sig didn't come down with it.

and what planet are you living on in your caption photo, anyway?!

Cheers.

Let's stay civil & on topic here, ok?

If you have something you'd like to say to another member that is off topic, personal, whatever, please remember we have a nifty PM feature here on ScubaBoard.

BTW, for the record I happen to like the Aeris Atmos XT hybrid BC. wink

Carolyne:
Hi all,

I'm looking for some input from anyone who dives with either an
Oceanic Isla QLR, Genesis Athena, or Sequest Eva.

What can you tell me about these? Comfortable? Likes/Dislkes? I've tried them on and will be purchasing one but wanted some feedback first.

Thanks for any info you can give.
Carolyne
I'm actually a dealer and the Oceanic isla bcd is a nice one. We find that the majority of newer divers prefer back inflation over jacket style! The ScubaPro Ladyhawk is pretty nice. Another nice option that we find that the lady's like is the DiveRite Transpac w/Venture wing. We have a pool at our shop and have found that the best research that anyone can do is to get in a pool a try a couple of different ones out!! Go on a TEST DIVE!

The biggest difference I've found between the two diva's is that the QD is a standard jacket, meaning it inflates all the way around. The LX is a dragon-fly design. This means that it has a back wing design...but also has two small bladders behind the pockets in the front. I love this, I get all the advantages of a back inflate (both at surface....the wing expands away from you, so you don't get squeezed, and at depth....I feel the wing makes getting flat easier when horizontal any air goes to the wing and doesn't go into your front bladders) and doesn't have the negatives at the surface. It doesn't throw you on your face at all, due to the small bladders in front of you.

The only thing I can think of as far as cold water/warm water is that I think the Diva has a bit more lift than the QD.

FWIW, I dive warm blue Caribbean water 95% of the time and I use my Diva LX and love it.

Peace,
Cathie

I also have a a Diva LX and dive anything from the quarries in the midwest to Cozumel and Tortola. My first BC was a Zeagle Escape and it just didn't fit well (Im a short torso'ed kind of gal).

My suggestion would be to try on every BC available in your area, not only will it give you a chance to see how each fits--but a chance to visit other LDS!

Hi Carolyne

I bought the SeaQuest EVA last September. I love the functionality, i.e. pockets, handle, integrated weight system, padding at the back etc. The BCD is really comfortable and it fit me perfectly in the store, so I bought it. However, when I wore it diving for the first time I was a bit taken back as it was became too loose. In horizontal position the integrated weight system pulled the front pockets out and away from my body. I needed twice as much weight as usual because I was diving in the Red Sea (the most buoyant water in the world after the dead sea) in a 7mm wet suit with a 12 litre aluminium tank on my back. To compensate for the pull from the extra weight, I had the BCD adjusted at the tightest waist setting, but it was still too loose at the front when swimming. Mind you, in standing position it was absolutely fine. In order the get streamlined, I ended up diving with my arms crossed at my waist to keep the pockets down and the BCD snug.
The moral of this story is if you have the chance to try the BCD in water before making a purchase - take it. A great fit above water even with full gear on, doesn’t necessarily equate a great fit under water. Unfortunately not many stores offer the opportunity to test equipment before purchase, but perhaps it’s worth making an effort to find a store that does. After all you should be pleased with your purchase for years to come. In my case, I just hope that the problem won’t be so bad if I go diving in different conditions requiring less weight. I've only made 20 dives with the BCD and aside from what I've just mentioned I am satisfied with it.

Happy Shopping

Sylvie

I have a Diva LX with the Sure lock system. I love the fit. I have made about 13 dives with it (all warm water) and has worked great. I am short torse'd also, but busty, and the lack of a chest strap is a blessing (girls, you know what I mean). The pockets are roomy and well placed. My only complaint is that I wish I had more D rings. Oh, this BCD does not pack as well as others. Overall, is a great BCD and worth every penny.

Just my two cents

Hey Dive Junkie,

Thanks for your input.

Let me ask you, what do you think about the shoulder strap sliding adjustment? sturdy enough? I'm just a little concerned that it might wear out.

Thanks again,
Carolyne
