I've been diving with the Athena (size XS)for a year now.

Likes:
* It fits my small waist and back length
* It's packs up fairly small.
* I float face up
* It's got 2 tank straps that don't slip

Dislikes:
* The integrated weights are a bear to reinsert in a rescue class.
* The BC pockets are too small for a back up light or a rescue sausage.
* I usually have to readjust the velcro cummerbund twice. Never stays the first time.

It's my first BC so I don't have long term experience with others.

Good luck!

I have tried that, and it helps a little. I usually pack the BCD first ( use it as a "lining inside the bag) and place the rest of the gear in the middle (inside the BCD). This way I don't loose as much space in the bag.

MsParamedic:
I agree Coquito, try taking the weight pockets out. It doesn't help much, but every bit helps!

Hey Dive Junkie,

Thanks for your input.

Let me ask you, what do you think about the shoulder strap sliding adjustment? sturdy enough? I'm just a little concerned that it might wear out.

Thanks again,
Carolyne
If you're talking about the slide adj. on the Isla, we've never had any issues with the BCD's that we have sold nor have I heard about any problems. As far as being sturdy enough, that wouldn't be the appropriate BC for wreck diving. When choosing a BC you have to ask yourself a couple of questions. How have you liked jacket style BCD's & have you tried a back inflation one?, Where are you going to be diving? If you can picture yourself in 5 years or so what kind of diving interests you? Based on answers to those questions we are able to narrow down some of your choices and get people into the right BC the first time!

I have had a seaquest Diva now for over 2 years and done over 200 dives - in all temps - I love it - especially the integrated weights - stops the hips getting sore !! It also stops the back ache !!!!
However I truly believe that as a BCD is such a big investment - you really must try out as many as possible - we girls do come in so many shapes and sizes !!!

I have and Isla and loved it. For warm water diving it is great--very comfortable. Since I dive in warm and cold water and wear at the most 20 lbs of weight, I am moving on to the Seaquest Diva LX because of the greater lift capacity. Hope this helps!

gemdiver:
I was told that the Diva QD is for warmer waters and the LX is for colder water by my LDS. That could account for the price difference.

LX has more lift which is probably why they consider it for cold water. IMO LX appears to be a nicer rig. My wife wants one
