I'm new to this board and appreciate the opportunity. I'm in the process of setting up a new scuba travel group for women. My goal is to escort a group of maybe 10 to 12 women scuba divers that love to dive but also enjoy all the other activities at the destination. Such as snorkeling, relaxing on the beach, biking, hiking, zip lining, the local cusine and of course shopping. I love to dive and see a need for such a group to facilitate all the single women divers that need buddys and would love to have a scuba girls getaway. What do you think? Think this is a good idea? Thanks for your input. Judy

Might want to Women's Views forum, and there is a singles forum, as well. You sound like a travel agent. :)

Welcome to ScubaBoard!

Hi, Thanks. I am a travel agent. But my quest now is to do things I enjoy with people who enjoy the same thing. I've been a solo diver since 1988 when I was certified. My ex-husband and I traveled a lot but he was not a diver. So I was stuck diving with mostly males (not a terrible thing:) and couples. I really enjoyed most dives, but it would have been more fun to dive with other women and friends. Spending a week alone with strangers (mostly men and couples) doesn't interest me much. So I figured there were others like me out there. And this would be a good way to put my travel agent connections to good work and have fun!

I probably represent a very small and skewed group of women divers, but when I travel to dive . . . I DIVE. Food is, of course, important, and good food is awfully nice. But none of the gals I dive with would be interested in ziplining or shopping.

I am new to divng, 30 dives now. I too have the issue of finding buddies. It's funny because some of the men I have dove with are married, but their wives don't dive. I almost feel obligated to tell them that I don't go that way so they can reassure their wives! Then that puts me in the awkward place with women who might not feel all that comfortable around me. Don't worry last I knew they stopped the recruitment bonuses so I don't have to try and get anyone signed up ;) Anyway, womens dive trips would be fun except for the shopping! I would maybe do zipline, maybe hike, and some sight seeing.

My daughter and I love hiking and ziplines. Not so much on shopping. You can't dive every minute and seeing the land side of the area is nice too.

When in Jamaica at a resort we were supposed to go to this open air market. I was excited.

My disappointment was the open air market was 30 minutes. The rest of the trip was spent at a very small, over priced Galleria Mall type area. I was really heartbroken.

So if you DO go shopping, make sure you explain exactly what kind of shopping these ladies are doing.

I appreciate all your responses. Just a note...there are a lot of dive operators and dive trips out there for the serious diver that wants to dive the entire trip.
My goal is to provide a more relaxed diving trip, with diving being the main focus but offering other fun activities as well. The participants in the group can choose to be active or relax as well as shop or not. I'm not a big shopper either, but do enjoy roaming thru the towns I've visited. I'm an active traveler and want to experience what's above the water as well as below the water. In other words I want to do it all.

Just make sure you're up front on pricing and anyone that goes at no cost.

For example. If you take a group of 10 to 12 women divers, are you paying equal share or going for free (or greatly reduced cost) since you arranged the trip?
