BARNEGAT LIGHT, N.J. (CBS3/AP) ―

The Coast Guard tells Eyewitness News that an injured diver who lost consciousness while diving from a boat off the southern New Jersey coast has been pronounced dead.

It was not immediately clear how the diver, identified only as a 30-year-old woman, injured herself Saturday afternoon. She was being treated at Southern Ocean County Hospital in Manahawkin, initial details on her condition were not disclosed.

A rescue crew from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light responded to the Lady Go Diver, which was about eight miles off the coast of Barnegat Light, after a crew member reported the injury around 12:40 p.m.

The woman was soon transferred to the rescue boat and taken to the Barnegat Light station, where emergency services personnel took her to the hospital
