Some friends and I would like to dive the Wisconsin shore this year. We are leaning toward the Sheboygan area but wanted to hear from some local divers if this is a good choice or should we head further north or south. We are looking for wrecks less than 160' deep. We have our own boats (25-30') so we need a launch location, and are looking for a campground to stay in. Feel free to post here of PM me. Thanks!!!

Sheboygan is a pretty good place to dive if you have a boat. You are in range of the McMillan and Pitz(70fow), Walter B. Allen(167fow), Selah Chamberlin(70fow), Hetty Taylor(110fow) and the Advance(80fow). That's what I can come up with off the top of my head. J.M. Kohler Terre Andre state park is just south of town and offers camping. You can launch at Sheboygans Marina.
When you finish there, you can go to Port Washington and do the Niagara(50fow), Mahoning(55fow), and Northerner(135fow) from the above mentioned state park it's a 20 mile hop to Port Washington so you won't need to seek different accomedations.
If you go to Deep Six Scuba Dive Group Website click on the movie theater link to view some of my videos on the Port Washington area wrecks. Hope this helps.

Hi Jim,
I think SwimJim lives right across the street from the Northerner. I have heard of most of the wrecks he mentioned, but have not dove them except for the Port Washington wrecks. You really shouldn't miss the Northerner if you can. It is really a beautifully preserved schooner. It's short, so you can see a lot on a single tank. SwimJim can verify that. I think he did a video on it.

Hey, when can I go on your boat? ;-)

I've done a couple Northerner videos. The best one is Labor Day weekend with the Deep Six which features the Northerner and the seldom visited, but very interesting Island City wreck. I had my new video system for that one. For me the Northerner is about a 12 mile jaunt.

Thanks for the information. The diving sounds like what we are looking for, now we just need to find a campground in the area. The state park is full and we will need 4 sites for the campers, boats toybox and the pack mule carring the kitchen sink. Any local suggestions on campgrounds?

Kettle Moraine North Camping - WDNR
not sure if full, long lake will be a trip to the big pond=Lake Michigan
a State park in the works near swimjims is Harrington state park off Lake Michigan and real close to one wreck site!
but go figure, what ever happened to the camp sites they were working on god knows the local businesses would love the campers but leave it up to the state to drag their feet!
Id throw my back yard to you but wow way too many items for my small place!
