Determined to make the most of the cool water months, DDT will host a series of lectures/workshops on higher-level scuba topics followed by pool work on skills and advanced buoyancy. The meeting will take place about once every several weeks and continue until the March trip to the Philippines.

The topics will shadow those covered in the NAUI Master Diver and PADI Dive Master textbooks, but will also draw on other sources and agencies. Description and schedule of the program can be found here:
http://www.discoverydiverstokyo.com/schedule.htm

While we do have a number of NAUI Master diver and PADI Dive Master candidates who will be attending these sessions, all certified divers are welcome to attend.

A full day of pool/workshop including one tank is only JPY 7,000.

Please consult the schedule for details.

Many thanks to all who were able to attend and contribute to our first session! (Sorry to Nina and Ciara who were not in the photo). We kicked off the lecture series with a comprehensive discussion about scuba gasses from air to nitrox to Helium mixes, including the specifics of O2, N2 and CO2. The talk was peppered with dry British humor served up by Geoff and Adrian, while Danny added occasional quips from down under. The class session ended with a productive analysis of an case study involving an actual incident involving gas issues.

After lunch, we hit the pool for a buoyancy session with (soon to be) Dr. Bax. Everyone made admirable strides toward the transition from a vertical, land dwelling creature to a horizontal, aquatic one.

Kudos also go to Ciara, who made huge improvements in only her first day of the NAUI Scuba Diver Course!

I'm already looking forward to the next session on Sunday, December 3rd. Details are on our schedule here:http://www.discoverydiverstokyo.com/schedule.htm

For those who plan on coming, please read the section of your text relevant to gas management/dive planning if you are involved in a course. Others are welcome as well.

Next session, December 17th...
Video footage of buoyancy work will be taken for review later in the day.

ASHI O2 provider workshop will be given to all attendees as the lecture topic will be decompression related incidents and treatment. The workshop will be included in the day fee of JPY 7,000 and those who wish to have the ASHI O2 provider card may do so for a card fee of JPY 5,000.

Sunday, December 17th - Yugawara

Today was a bit of a special occasion as we were joined by veteran NAUI course director, and new friend of DDT, Tim. Many thanks to Tim for his contribution of knowledge and experience for the day.

Pool work was intensive this round. Serious attention to skills while in good buoyant trim. We also mixed things up with fin kicks, SMB, lift bag, stress testing and emergent air shares. It was inspiring to see everyone working so hard in the water. Once again, Nina was awarded tops scores for in-water form.

In the classroom, we covered the basics of decompression-related afflictions including root causes, predisposition, and prevention. Practical, hands-on use of the O2 equipment will be covered at a later date.

We have some good pictures, but attachments don't seem to upload at the moment...will try again later.

More regular events to come through January, Feb and March....
