Having finally settled on a DiveRite alluminium backplate with Transplate harness I'm now looking for a wing for diving with single cylinders in a 3mm suit. I've been looking at the DR Venture wing, Oxycheq Mach V 30# and the OMS single bladder 32# but can't decide.

I'd appreciate any feedback on those possibilities as well as any other suggestions.

Many thanks.

I just purchased a LCD 30# wing for DSS. I have yet to dive with it but, I know several people that have and really enjoy them. Good luck on either one you chose. :)

I actually have both of the those wings and a couple of Transplates as well.

My thoughts. The Venture is more stable on the surface and will work perfectly with the DR Alu plate without a STA. The current Mach V needs a STA (but I have been told the new version will not).

If you are going to do a lot of drift diving (Coz or Jupiter,FL) and might be waiting on the surface for the boat for a longer period of time the Venture's stability might make it a top choice.

The Mach V is super slim and extra tough. Underwater it trims out great and vents just a bit easier than the Venture. I use a STA on all my rigs (it makes it easier to change out the wings).

The Mach V w/DR SS BP is my preferred warm water rig that I leave in Florida. The Venture with a Hammerhead ALU plate is my warm water travel set-up.

At the risk of being flamed, the DSS wing (or BP for that matter) is better used as part a a complete DSS system. I picked up a DSS Kydex BP and the mounting holes for my current wings (DSS, Oxycheq and Halcyon) do not line up well. The 11" pitch is not the problem, the top mounting hole is just too high - the DSS stuff is not designed to be used with a STA. I might drill some new holes, but most likely I will just sell the plate - no harm, no foul.

I have a Mach V I use with both Hammehead and DiveRite plates. Like it better than the 32 #OMS wing I had. The Mach V is more stramlined and sturdier IMO.

On the DSS wings, heard a lot of positive things about them. I understand they are designed to mate with a DSS plate though. The "wobblestopper" which is attached to the wing kind of wraps the channel on the plate and gives benefits of a STA.

DSS has a forum here and the owner is pretty accessible. Give him a shout and see how their wings mate to your DR plate.

Another vote for the Mach V. It's much slimmer than the Venture or the OMS wing, but it is a little longer to provide the same air volume (lift). I use the Oxycheq lightweight STA, so it's a very solid mounting and keeps the tank close to the wing.

Joining the chorous for the mighty mite, the Mach V. What is best, who knows but I sure do like this minimalist mini wing with big wing lift. This is the closest there is to diving with no BC there is without doing exactly that. N
