I don’t think you can go wrong with the Scuba-Pro or the Apeks regs. I will say one thing about the Apeks regs. I don’t have any idea which company originally designed this reg if it wasn’t Apeks but that reg has to be one of the most copied regulators around, this has to be a good sign.

There is a site somewhere that the Navy has with which regulators it has tested that meet its’ class A standard, you probably can’t go wrong with any of those.

I am curious if Apeks makes these for other marketing companies or allows others to manufacture them or if they do not own the patent rights to it? But I have heard that some of these other “Apeks like” designs have a few small differences with the valve stem mechanism, so this leads me to believe that there is indeed a patent involved.

Anyone?

I know it seems that way from this board but nearly all the GUE people I've run into here in Fla use Scubapro. The pictures in the DIR-F book also show a bunch of Scubapro regs. When I took the DIR-F class, the only requirements given as to regs were that the primary be high performance and of a design that in failure would deliver all gas rather than shut off.

i´m completely agree about the ideas said by DA Aquamaster....

if you have any doubt just look sites like: http://www.wkpp.org/articles/Gear/equipmentimages.htm

for the "proper" DIR config including apeks regs....(GI included)

Forget the jerks on the board, keep asking your questions.
Geez, did they change the TOS to say you're not allowed to have a sense of humor? :54:

Yeah - both you and he did what was specifically NOT requested and did indeed "take it the wrong way." Chill out - I asked if he was certified. I mean - he asked if you could use a "Tech" regulator with Nitrox! That's a pretty basic question, don't you think?

Whatever.

It's a pretty good indicator that he would not be certified beyond the OW or perhaps AOW level. But in that case, or even in the case of someone who is not certified at all, I can understand a person wanting to get all the information they can to enable them to buy gear that:

A) won't be obsolete and end up in the E-bay bucket the first day he shows in a tech class and,

B) that won't be ridiculed the first time he sees a tech diver and asks an opinion.

I think it's smart to get as much information as you can up front so that you are not buying equipment twice. Scubaboard is a good place to ask those types of questions as there are, sadly enough, a lot of out there who are not going to give you straight answers about dive gear assuming they even have a clue about the requirements of tech diving.

....it seems new members sometimes confuse the scuba board titles "Senior Member", "Scubaboard Veteran", "Regular Member", etc. with dive experience. Those titles are based on the number of posts on the board and have nothing to do with dive experience.

LOL- Kinda like the actor who used to play Dr. Ben Casey who did a commercial for Bayer asprin and started out by saying "I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV....". What some people sometimes try to use for credibility can get pretty incredible.
