i am wondering what are the uses of a 100lb wing? the people at my dive store say i shouldnt need any more lift that 40 even with double tanks. I found a good deal on a bc that has a 100 lb wing with it, but i mainly will use the bc for a single aluminum tank. can i use the giant wing with a single or is that asking for trouble? info please....
thanks,
zach

You will not be able to vent the air out of your wing as it will wrap around around your tank. When diving in current it may act as a giant sail and overall it causes lots of drag.
Compare it to wearing pants that are 10 sizes too big...

If there is a current....it could be like wearing those pants in a stong wind. It would act like a paracute and make it hard to fin.

also. what is the story with wings that have bungees around them to even out air and make them deflate better, etc? pros/cons? can you rig up your own bungees on your non bungeed wing?

info please....

Unless your doing technical very deep diving with a lot of heavy tanks and equip, you do not need nor even want to contemplate a 100# wing. You'll taco it around your tank and won't be able to properly vent. In the event of a stuck inflator, your overpressure relieve valve would not kick in until you shot to the surface like a rocket. If you start diving dual 130's with stages and a wetsuit, then you might want to look at it. You stated you use a single AL tank. Get a 30# single wing. Sell the 100# on eBay.

As for bungees, there are pro's and con's. Pro's: help keep the wing more streamlined when not inflated. Con's: hard to manually inflate at depth and could get hung up in an overhead environment. Most technical divers are against the bungees. Depends on the type of diving you're going to do.

Again, no way on the 100#.

zach,

Don't post the same question in multiple forums.

Look at the bar at the top of the page. See "New Posts"?

Most of us just hit that. If you post in multiple forums, your question shows up two or three times in a row as a new post. You'll get more answers than you wanted with a topic like this one just asking it once.

Regards,

Doc

You can get a deal on a 100lb wing because nobody wants it.
